A recent Saturday night found us in the middle of a garden of statues, in the garden of the Nasher Sculpture Center, in the heart of downtown Dallas, listening to a fabulous band called "Tuxedo Junction" who plays our favorite kind of tunes: big band. The female lead singer had a one-of-a-kind voice, not unlike the sultry, soft voice of Norah Jones. The crowd sat on blankets underneath huge trees listening. Then we saw the tiny wood dance floor set on the grass up front by the band; I was aching to get up there...Ted, good heart that he is, trumped up some dance fever, and accompanied me to the dance floor for some great Sinatra, Bennett, and Latin tunes. The photo of him is against part of the Dallas skyline.
This photo shows the band setting up and the title banner of the evening. I was so thrilled about Ted's secret purchase of the tickets and the advance planning this took. That scores a lot of points with me!
This is one the many unique statues in the garden. It is about 5 stories tall! The figures are life-size. It shows people walking straight up a pole toward heaven. That is what it is supposed to depict. In the garden were many interesting pieces which we walked around looking at during the concert, including a Picasso and a Henry Moore who I studied in my Humanities major years ago. When you combine great music, the outdoors, night-air, dancing, and art--you can't go wrong! We hope to go back every Fall.
