Rob's new job & perks

So, I got a new job in September at a local college: Tarrant County College in northwest Fort Worth. It's about 15 miles from our home. I absolutely LOVE it! I work as the Spanish Instructional Assistant (fancy name for "Tutor") and I work with any students who come in for extra help with oral presentations, homework, tests, worksheets, etc. My boss is showed below in the dancing photo with me...she is from Peru and head of the entire Fine Arts Department, of which Spanish is a part of. I have my own office (amazing!) that is surrounded by the voice lesson rooms, the piano lessons/practice rooms, the American Sign Language Lab and I am down the hall from the art studios. So I hear opera, piano, choirs, see ASL going on, and see a lot of unique art work in every genre all down the hallway. It is so perfect for me! This is the campus I work on, overlooking a lake. It's quite beautiful, though I can't get used to all the smokers--I went to a completely non-smoking university and that was the biggest suprise when I started... I must mention that I'm dying to take some art classes, dance classes, tennis, and even a political science class, since I hear that professor every T/TH talking about government and how it works. I can't remember my civics class from East High school and I'm much more interested in it now...the teacher is fantastic, that is what draws me to it. Anyway, maybe I will start teaching a Pilates or other fitness class for their Continuing Education department. That would be the final perfect addition; go work out right after my 4 hour shift. Did I mention that sweet factor? I work a half day with Fridays off. Part-time. Now that it exactly what I have been looking for! My boss keeps asking me if I know anyone with a Master's degree in Spanish, as they need more professors (p/t) and I wish I had mine!!! Maybe in a few years... ¡Baile, baile, baile! My boss asked me in October, how can we publicize our Spanish classes? What can we do right before winter registration starts to show students on campus how great it is to take Spanish classes? I told her without hesitation, that we needed to have a free Salsa Dance demo or class in the biggest lobby/area of our small campus. She got excited--I was super excited. I made some bright, snazzy posters advertising two dates, lunch-times for students to come to the Theatre Lobby for free popcorn, lemonade and salsa dancing. We asked the Dance Dept. to come and dance with us and offer the demonstration. They were fantastic! We put flyers all over the campus and then got two big bunches of balloons to put on tables in that lobby. I stapled little spanish "dichos" or sayings (in English on one side and Spanish on the other; like, "Love conquers all" and "You know who your friends are" in both languages) to pieces of candy that we gave away. It was a blast!! We made the front page of the campus paper that goes to all FIVE campuses that Tarrant County College has around Fort Worth. So, how can I NOT love a job that has me speaking Spanish, salsa dancing, meeting people, and helping people?! ¡Es una vida muy buena!

Ahh that is kind of exciting. Being at a stage where you can start occupying your brain with actual knowledge again and not just carpool times, naps time and preschool lessons. How fun!
