SIDEKICKS DANCE TEAM

 This is the whole team, about 50 girls, only 7 freshman made the Varsity Dance & Drill Team. Go Maddie!! She has two really good freshman friends who made it, too.

 If you are not from Texas, you probably can't quite believe these outfits are serious, but trust me, they are. All the drill teams wear something like this. They go to all Varsity football games, cheer in the stands, dance during half time, and have "football buddies" that they encourage with big posters each week.

These big things around the girls' necks are MUMS. Another crazy Texas tradition: for Homecoming day (at school and at game) girls (and boys have smaller ones on a garter on their arms) make and wear these hugs "mums" surrounded by ribbons and glitter, which also hang down with trinkets attached. It is HEAVY! All the non-Texan parents we know of the dance team girls were struck..."what? fake mums, decorated with $60-$160 worth of stuff??? What?! Why?"

Here is the dance team performing a jazz/hip hop routine in the gym at the Pep Rally.
When football season is over, then the Drill team begins working on their Competition numbers for a whole bunch of Regional and National contests. They do jazz, hip hop, modern and lyrical dancing. This is the part that Maddie LOVES. me too...is there a team for moms??
