What I would give for traffic school

So does anyone know how much a speeding ticket is these days? What about in a school zone?! I've had the unfortunately luck and heavy foot to have received 2 tickets in the last 45 days. Oh boy...I asked about "working it off" or traffic school (which is what I did on my mission to CA when I got 2 tickets back-to-back; 8 hours in traffic school with my companion and a motley crew sharing why we think we got our traffic violations, what should have happened, our history with the law, etc...think: Breakfast Club, add some older folks and various ethnic groups, and that was our experience. Really good, strangely close-knit by the end of the day, and we gave out some Books of Mormon; even took a "group photo"--no joke!). The tiny town office told me they don't offer those options. It's pay or get arrested. mmmm. tough decision. So I went to court tonight to "haggle" down the fees perhaps; then I was struck with the genius thought of offering my interpreting services. There are many Latinos in our area who are not bilingual. I am! Cool! I walk in, I am feeling hopeful of trading interpreting for waiving of my hundreds of dollars of fees--and I see the judge, his honorable Manuel Valdez. DANG! El habla español. He doesn't need an interpreter! C'est la vie! (that's another story about Ted's French teachings to our kids when they were young and they used it often, even in the right circumstances, like flushing a toy down the toilet: Nick said, "La vie!" the shortened version at age 3).
