Career Day: Motherhood!

"Motherhood, 24/7, On the frontlines of humanity: Are you man enough to try it?"
~ Maria Shriver
Moms volunteer (daily somewhere at home, work, church, school).
Meet Melissa S. She's an amazing mom of 3 adopted kids and a dear friend and neighbor. She and I volunteered at Field Day. We started by volunteering together many months on the PTA's Hospitality Committee, putting together luncheons for the teachers each month. Our unique contribution (besides enthusiasm) was themes of the month, decorating the tables and the room in our theme; even having theme music playing to make it a fun atmosphere for the teachers' short 25 minute lunch break away from the classroom. We plan to head the committe at the new school being finished this summer in our neighborhood.
One day Melissa calls and says, "Do you want to go to the Career Fair as Mothers?! I'll make us some shirts to wear and we can talk about the great and far-reaching job of being a mom." (something like that, full of enthusiasm)

Check out these groovy shirts:I respond, "Yea, I'd love to do that. We can get some good quotes from the book we just read in book club: I Am A Mother and make some posters." (another life changing and fantastic book)
Here are our quotes, above (I will list one or two along the margin of this blog). Melissa also brought a big jar of Hershey's kisses. The kids who came by got to guess how many were in it (235 I think, lucky was the winner!). She asked the kids why we would have kisses at our table...because Moms give so many kisses!
Finally, here is our display of quotes, books, kisses, and goody bags. We already have more creative ideas for next year: like, having hats representing all the things moms do: chauffeur, chef, business (what kind of hat?) as accountant, teacher, nurse, nutritionist, nurturer, maid/cleaning lady, gardener, painter, decorator, psychologist, movie/book reviewer, fitness 'expert', laundry lady...the list goes on!! Of course, then we have to train our children in all of this stuff, too!

On the back of our shirts was our dictionary definition: "mother (verb, adj, noun) One who does it all!" Thanks to Melissa we were able to stand up for the amazing, 24-7 job that women around the world have. Without mothers there wouldn't be anyone on the earth! As Neal A. Maxwell, latter day apostle said, It is true that "the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world."
