For the love of the BYU channel

My family knows that I have always been against cable TV--who needs more channels? who has time to watch them? and then to pay for what is, by a huge majority, shows that do little to enrich or uplift? It appears to be a waste of valuable time. We have way too much to do -- some, like sports & outdoor play & friends, we enjoy; other things we do, chores & homework, are not as enjoyable, but must be done. I am not one who believes that families can bond while watching TV; you don't even talk or interact with one another. However, we do get cozy (in the winter) and enjoy some movies that have great messages; but overall, we have more fun playing cards, games, sports, crafts, etc. Now, admittedly, we have the Wii (over which I was the one who voted "no" on... :) but Ted and the kids bought it when I was out of town. So there is more TV, but at least there is some interaction and action, period, if its sports' games. I am the nutty mom who is saying, "Why don't you go outside and play some real soccer? or let's go bowling or play tennis for real." I found out a guy at church thinks the same thing (he is a soccer coach and very active) so I don't feel so far out there.
Well, Ted has wanted the channel that shows the BYU and Mountain West conference games for over 3 years, so I finally broke down (after a long-awaited promise of saving the money in another area) and we got a basic package from DirecTV, which also means we have the capacity to record any number of programs. I have found 2 channels that I am thrilled about: one is the BYU channel (devotionals, Real Families, Real Answers, BYU performing groups, LDS Lives, General Conference, etc.) and the other is FIT TV. Fitness classes (from yoga to stability ball to belly dancing) and healthy cooking classes around the clock! I'm in heaven! As we are a bit busy, I have mostly recorded a bunch of programs off of both channels, and had very little time to watch them. Yet, I love that if there is a free evening, after the kids go to bed, I can turn on something that doesn't offend, that isn't about crime/sex/drugs, or that isn't watching someone else's [warped] reality. :) It is incredibly refreshing and uplifting. I honestly would not be upset if we got rid of the whole TV itself, but since Ted really loves to relax with re-runs of the Dukes of Hazzard, Twlight Zone, and especially sports' games, at least I have something to relax and enjoy, too. I have loved the Truman Madsen programs on Joseph Smith, Saints at War, BYU Ballroom dance tour/championships, and all Education Week & Women's Conference talks.
